After Skateboarding — Personal Project
This look was born from the desire to translate into images what it feels like to miss a time that will never come back. It tells the story of a character confronted by a sense of emptiness in the present, realizing that skateboarding once filled life with a kind of meaning and vitality that the present can no longer provide.
The look was built to visually bring together these two emotional worlds, through both color and texture. The grain, the wear, and the colors feel as if they have been touched by time. I used a split tone with warm highlights and cool shadows to express this emotional duality, the coexistence of joy and loss, and the longing for a time when skateboarding was still an active part of life.
As references, I looked at two films that use skateboarding as a central part of their narrative and that I really like: Skate Kitchen and Mid90s. I wasn’t trying to recreate any specific frame or scene. What happened was that, in those films, I found visual elements in the cinematography that helped me translate the feelings this project called for.
In the end, it became an interesting study, both creatively and in the process of coloring something that has been part of my life for years: skateboarding.

Esse look nasceu da vontade de traduzir em imagem o que é sentir saudade de um tempo que não volta. Uma narrativa sobre um personagem que se depara com um vazio no presente e percebe que o ato de andar de skate estava preenchido de vida de um jeito que o agora não consegue preencher.
O look foi construído com o intuito de unificar visualmente esses dois universos emocionais, seja nas cores ou na textura, com o grão, o desgaste, as cores que parecem ter sido tocadas pelo tempo. Um split tone com quente nas altas e frio nas baixas pra traduzir essa dualidade de sentimentos, essa coexistência entre alegria e perda do tempo sem o esporte.
Como referência, fui atrás de dois filmes que utilizam o skate como ferramenta central de sua narrativa e que curto bastante: Skate Kitchen e Mid 90’s. Não teve nenhum frame ou cena específica que tentei recriar, o que aconteceu foi que nesses filmes encontrei elementos visuais da fotografia que me ajudaram a traduzir algumas sensações para a narrativa que esse projeto pedia.
No fim, foi um estudo interessante tanto no aspecto criativo quanto na questão de colorir uma paixão que está comigo há anos. O skate.
